ABOUT Lauren M. Marshall

Lauren received her Bachelor of Science degree in Agri-Business from Florida A & M University
in Tallahassee, FL in May 1993. Upon returning home to Houston and on the job hunt for a
position in her degree, she worked as a Para-Professional in the Houston Independent School
District in a special education classroom and was encouraged by the teacher she was working
with to pursue her teaching certification.

She was always going to teach, she just thought that it would be later in her life. The journey toward teaching began in August 1994 as she pursued her Generic Special Education Certificate through the University of Houston and HISD’s Alternative Certification Program, granted in May 1995. This was the best move she could have ever made. She received her master’s in education from Grand Canyon University in June 2008.

She worked with students with special needs for 28 years and retired in June 2021. People
would ask her what she wanted to pursue after retirement and her answer was always travel
and give back to others.

ay Davis in the Community allows her to give back to others in the
community through scholarships, art community collaborations and the RAK (Random Acts of
Kindness) Grants that assist someone that needs a “Hand Up” to get through a temporary
situation. She is so thankful for this opportunity; it gives her Peace and Joy.

A little fun fact: She loves puzzles (crosswords, word search and jigsaw).
